Organizations, large and small, are facing increasing threats to their safety and security. Physical security of their assets and personnel, electronic security including the security of their IT infrastructure, and the security of their information (and Data) are all under constant attack. Someone out there is constantly trying to do “bad things” and succeeding.
Significant amounts of resources are being deployed to combat security threats; however, these efforts are in silos with each having its own strategies, management and staff with little communication between them. In today’s environment, physical threats have an impact on IT operations, and cyber threats have an impact on physical operations. Everything is interconnected and to treat cyber and physical threats separately creates unnecessary confusion, delays, inefficiencies and increases expenses significantly. It is therefore necessary to integrate enterprise security.
Threats can originate from multiple sources and each source must be monitored in a coordinated manner. Each station should know what the others are doing. Currently organizations are monitoring only a few sources of threats and seldom in a coordinated manner. This creates gaps and vulnerabilities in the enterprise level security management strategy that can have catastrophic consequences.
In order to provide a high level of confidence in the safety of the operations, ALL points of monitoring such as exterior perimeter security systems (various active and passive barriers); internal security (turn styles, access control card readers, etc.); audio and video analytics; IT infrastructure and smart devices; surveillance CCTVs; and others must be integrated into a central Global Security Operations Center (GSOC). When this is done, each station can report its activities to the GSOC where they can be monitored 24x7x365 and real-time alerts can be sent to responsible parties for prompt action.
